Howdy!

JD here! I've decided to run for House Representative to help lead Kentucky towards a brighter future for all of us. Everyday I hear people complain about their problems, many of which can be solved with smarter legislation that actually works for the people. This is our nation, this is our state. Shouldn't it be easier to live here?

Who I am and why I care

I was born in Jefferson county in 1992. My mother worked as a teacher's assistant who earned her degrees and became a full-time teacher. She worked to support myself and my brother and sister. My father spent most of my life working for UPS, a job he had no love for, but did it to provide health insurance for his family.

Shortly after high-school I had moved in to help take care of my uncle Howie, who had muscular dystrophy. He and his wife made too much money to afford government assistance, but didn't make enough to afford an in-home nurse, which he needed.

I have worked pretty much any job you can think of, from restaurants, retail, and warehouses, I come from the working class and I will fight for the working class. Most of the corporations I've worked for always put their quarterly profits above the well being and respect of their employees. Threatening to fire anyone who dares to not work on a holiday or who has the nerve to get sick and need to rest and see a doctor.

On 10/17/2024 I had experienced the worst day of my life. At roughly 5am my wife had woken up to the beginning of her miscarriage. I rushed her to Flaget Hospital and got her in the ER. She lost over two liters of blood and nearly died. If we had lived further away from the hospital, I fear she may not have survived that morning.

How many Kentuckians face similar situations?

My entire life scientists have warned about climate change and the impact that humans have on it. We have been warned for decades about the pollution of the planet and how it will create more severe storms that will occur more frequently. Katrina, Sandy, Andrew, Helene, and the many recent tornados and flash floods are all the things we were warned about. This is only the beginning. There are many species in danger as well as our crops. It is not too late to start doing better.

Coal was a great source of power in the past, and we should never forget the men who mined it, but we must also remember the toll that took on them. We need to invest in cleaner and safer energy sources, not just for the environment, but the jobs and innovation that will bring to the state and the country. China is leading the way in these technologies, and as Americans, I think we can do it better.

Not only are hospitals and specialists a scarce resource in our state, but there are still folks who do not have running water(how many times a year does Bardstown get a boil water advisory?) and many more who do not have high speed internet. Our roads are actually ranked fairly high nationally, but I believe we should invest more in providing pedestrian walkways and increased public transportation. There is a lot of work to be done for the infrastructure of our state.

Our education system in this state needs reform. There is no reason why we should be ranked so low on the national level. I know our people are smarter than we appear on paper, so let's work together to bettering our education system. Not just for the children, but adult education as well.

I believe in Kentucky. I love my state and I love living in Nelson County. I hate seeing so many of our neighbors suffering and just working to get by. We shouldn't just survive, we deserve to thrive. We deserve more and I believe we can be the beacon for the nation.

I hope that you vote for me, because I want to work for you. I don't have the money to solve these problems, but I can push for smarter legislation that will help. I want to do everything I can to improve our lives. I am JD Netherton and I am the Kentuckian of the people and for the people.
